Could you be a full time Nessie hunter? We’re recruiting for research vessel skipper

We’re on the hunt for an adventurous skipper to take the helm of its Deepscan Cruise vessel – meaning the successful candidate will spend their days searching for the legendary Nessie while navigating the world-famous waters of Loch Ness.

The unique opportunity, based in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, requires a passion for storytelling, in order to give guests unique insight into famous monster sightings, as well as sharing the history of the world’s most famous loch.

However, the successful applicant must also be a competent skipper with a strong understanding of maritime operations. They will captain Deepscan, a vessel named after the famous Operation Deepscan – the largest-ever search for the Loch Ness Monster which took place in 1987.

The new skipper will also talk with passengers about cutting-edge research that continues to make Loch Ness one of the world’s most captivating destinations, while giving guests a hands-on chance to participate in the search by using the boat’s word-class sonar equipment to listen beneath the surface for movement.

“This has to be one of the most unique jobs in the world. We’re looking for someone with a sense of adventure and a passion for Nessie, along with the ability to handle a boat in all conditions and a strong understanding safety on the water. And, most importantly, they must be prepared for the possibility of a monster encounter!”

The successful candidate will need to have relevant boating qualifications along with a passion for delivering unforgettable visitor experiences.

The Loch Ness Centre welcomes more than 110,00 guests each year and was reopened by Continuum Attractions – its current operator – in 2023 following a £1.5m redevelopment.
