Celebrating 20 Years of Hamish McHaggis at The Loch Ness Centre

Storytelling, Brunch & a Boat Cruise – Friday 25th July

This summer, we’re thrilled to welcome a very special guest to The Loch Ness Centre – award-winning Scottish author Linda Strachan, creator of the beloved Hamish McHaggis picture book series.

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Hamish McHaggis has been a favourite with families across Scotland and beyond. The books follow Hamish – a shy but adventurous Highland creature – and his friends, an osprey, a pine marten and an English hedgehog called Rupert, as they travel around the country discovering famous landmarks, history and wildlife.

And of course, one of their most memorable adventures is right here at Loch Ness, where Hamish and the gang search for the elusive monster. That’s why we’re so delighted to be part of Linda’s anniversary tour, which stops at many of the iconic locations featured in the books.

On Friday 25th July, families can join us for two special sessions:

Hamish McHaggis: Story & Brunch
9am–10am
Start your morning with a cosy storytelling session from Linda herself, followed by a family-friendly brunch. There will be time to chat, ask questions, and even get your books signed – and if we’re lucky, Hamish might make an appearance too!

Hamish McHaggis: Story & Cruise
12pm–1pm
Climb aboard for an exclusive boat trip on Loch Ness with Linda, as she reads from the books and shares more about Hamish, Angus, Jeannie and Rupert’s hunt for Nessie.

In the Highlands of Scotland there’s a secret glen… and if you can find it you might discover a cosy Hoggle, the home of Hamish McHaggis and his friends – an osprey, a pine marten and an English hedgehog, called Rupert. Together have many adventures all over Scotland.

My name is Linda Strachan. I am an award-winning Scottish writer with more than 70 books published, for children and adults. I have travelled all over the world speaking about my books and my writing. This year my much-loved Hamish McHaggis picture book series is celebrating its 20^th anniversary, with a new website and activities for families.

I will be on tour, stopping at many of the landmarks where the books are set, including Loch Ness where Hamish takes his friends to look for Nessie. On 25^th July I will be visiting The Loch Ness Centre in Drumnadrochit where I will be reading stories, talking about Hamish & his friends and signing books. There will also be a Brunch, a chance to meet me… and Hamish himself might just make an appearance! You can also book to come on an exclusive boat trip with me, to look for Nessie and hear more about Hamish McHaggis, Angus, Jeannie and Rupert as they search for the Loch Ness Monster.

These events are perfect for families with young children, and availability is very limited – so book early to avoid disappointment.
