Professional Loch Ness Monster hunter joins in the Quest to find the beast with new sighting

29th Jul 2025

We’ve recruited new skipper as the hunt for the Loch Ness Monster continues…

The centre has expanded its team of experts as seasoned outdoor instructor and lifelong Nessie enthusiast Steve Glew joins as the new skipper of our research vessel ‘Deepscan’.

Born in Yorkshire and raised on the Isle of Arran, Steve has lived in the Highlands for over 20 years and first skippered on Loch Ness back in 2003. A qualified Powerboat Instructor since 2003 and Advanced Powerboat operator since 2004, he brings over three decades of experience on the water, along with an unwavering belief in the mystery that lies beneath.

Steve has had a personal brush with the monster as he was piloting a speedboat in the south side of the loch on a calm, sunny morning when he noticed an unusual wave off the port side. Recalling the situation, Steve claims

“Suddenly, the classic humps emerged from the water, then vanished, only to resurface a few more times. I quickly grabbed my phone and managed to get an image of what looked like a distinct, dark mass rising from the surface. To this day, I believe I caught a glimpse of the monster itself.”

Steve’s genuine curiosity and deep love for the loch brings a fresh dose of energy and excitement to the Deepscan experience as he guides those keen to learn more about the loch and maybe even catch a glimpse of something extraordinary.

Nagina Ishaq, General Manager of The Loch Ness Centre, said:

“Steve brings an authentic connection to the legend of the Loch Ness Monster, having both skippered these waters for years and witnessed something remarkable himself. His deep knowledge of the loch and love for the mystery make him the perfect host for our Loch Ness cruise experience.”

Excited to join at the helm of Deepscan, Steve Glew commented:

“I hope Deepscan continues to break new ground in exploring the place we live and work. We’ve still only dipped our toe into the mysteries that lie beneath the waters of the loch and I’m sure there are still secrets waiting to be discovered.”

Our Deepscan cruise offers guests a captivating journey into the mystery of the loch, guided by sonar technology, scientific insight, and the stories that have captured imaginations for generations. Book your trip today.
