Sighting 1: The Seal Returns

Our first report is an excellent shot of what is likely the same seal spotted in previous weeks. Captured in a classic ‘bottling’ position, this sighting offers a clear image of the seal resting on the surface. While we can’t be certain whether it’s a grey or harbour seal, its appearance is likely linked to salmon hunting near the River Oich. This sighting confirms the possibility we mentioned earlier, as we hoped the seal might be seen again. It’s a fascinating glimpse into the natural wildlife at Loch Ness.

Sighting 2: The Bobbing Tree

The second report comes from a keen-eyed observer who spotted an object bobbing in the water. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a piece of tree, with the current and wave action causing the end to rise and fall rhythmically. While it might have been mistaken for something more mysterious, the natural movement of the tree debris adds a subtle, eerie charm to the Loch. If not a tree, this could, of course, be a rock, as the location suggests it is near the shoreline.

Sighting 3: Rocks in the Waves

The final sighting of the month involves an object spotted amidst breaking waves close to the shore. The observer was unsure of its nature at the time, but given the object’s proximity to the shoreline and the surrounding waves, it is almost certainly a rock. This is a common occurrence in Loch Ness, where rocks partially submerged can often create the illusion of something more intriguing. Nonetheless, the sighting offers a good reminder to stay vigilant, as not all appearances are what they seem.
